Brechfa Post Office

The post office has now announced the decision to close Brechfa Post office and replace it with an outreach service. Closure date has yet to be confirmed but looks to be sometime between November, 08 and January, 09.

The Bryn Stores Community Shop will remain open and continue to provide a wide range of goods and services to visitors and local people. They are also looking into how some Post Office services can be carried on in a different way.

Unfortunately it will soon no longer be possible for me to maintain the Brechfa Website or the Brechfa Blog. I have enjoyed researching information and developing both since moving to Brechfa and sincerely thank those who have contributed.

Regular visitor will have noted the removal of contact information and the Guest/Visitors book. As I will not be able to respond to any questions or edit inappropriate guest book comments I thought removal would be the best option.

I have reserved the brechfa.info domain name for 10 years and moved the website to a free hosting company, which will hopefully continue to make the Brechfa Village website available on the web, my legacy to Brechfa.....

The Post Office Ltd. is planning to close the Brechfa Post Office branch and to mitigate the impact of the proposed closure by establishing an Outreach Service in the area. It is proposed to put in place a Mobile Service for approximately 5 hours each week.

All in Brechfa and outlying areas oppose the closure.

Received the following communication from Hywel Griffiths:-

"If the villagers have been wondering who has been hacking down Holly bushes in the church yard its been descendants of Richard and Maria Morris and family, owners of the Forest Arms and farm from around 1840 to 1895.

The Morris family plot was over run with a tree and Holly Bushes. Family members who visited Brechfa couldn't find the graves.

But on a flying visit one cold wet morning in March this year I found them and am know sending the Morris line descendants on a Pilgrimage to Brechfa to visit and clean up the plot".

There is a joint PCC meeting for the 3 churches, Brechfa, Abergorlech and Llanfihangel Rhos Y Corn, in Brechfa Church Hall at 4:30pm on Sunday the 9th of December. Archdeacon Alun Evans will chair the meeting and this is the chance of the parish to listen to the options and debate what the future arrangements will be. This is a drop everything and come to the meeting event. If you do not come you will have lost your chance to influence the future.

IWC Media, makers of Channel 4's 'Location, Location, Location', have been commissioned by the BBC to make a new property series, 'Homes Live'. The new daytime show will go out on BBC One live everyday in October. They are looking for homeowners in this area that would be interested in taking part.

They are urgently looking for homeowners who are selling their home and are moving within the next 5 weeks and would be interested in returning to see what the new owners have done with the property.

Or perhaps you are about to move into the property and would like to invite the vendor back to see what changes you have made.

They would film with the vendor in their home before they move and then with the purchaser once they have moved in. They would then return some time later with the original owner to let them see how different the property looks.

New Brechfa Forest bike trail

The second Bike trail in Brechfa Forest recently opened to the public, the 9.2km Derwen green route. Please note this trail starts from Byrgwm car park.

This family route gives inexperienced off-road riders a unique introduction to the world of mountain biking. Clinging low to the valley sides, the trail eases you in with steady climbs and fun descents.Weaving through the forest you will encounter some lovely scenery and flowing terrain.

Public have their final say on Brechfa wind farms

The final stage of public consultation on Carmarthenshire County Council Supplementary Planning Guidance on Wind Farm Development in the Brechfa Forest Area has begun.

The draft guidance is published on the council website at www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk. Comments are being invited from interested organisations and the general public over the next three weeks.

Head of Planning Eifion Bowen said: "I am hopeful that the guidance will be generally welcomed as a contribution to the complex policy interpretation and synthesis which is required in order to deal with major wind farm proposals in the Brechfa Forest Area."

Regeneration and Leisure Executive Board member Cllr Clive Scourfield said: "There has been a significant response to documents circulated earlier in the process and I am pleased to support the supplementary planning guidance as an aid to understanding of the relevant issues."

Copies of the Arup Study Report can be downloaded from the website or obtained from the Head of Planning at 40 Spilman Street, Carmarthen.

Comments should be sent to the Head of Planning by Friday, February 16.
